Copenhagen Fashion Week (CPHFW) has partnered with YouTube to stream some of its Spring/Summer 2022 shows, which will take place from August 10-13.
The Google-owned platform will share the live catwalk experience to a global audience, elevating Copenhagen's position as an industry leader, even at a time of year when many publishers and buyers are on vacation. .
In a statement, the CPHFW said that YouTube's dedication to giving designers a voice and celebrating sustainable change in the industry will elevate Copenhagen's creators as a creative group with innovation, positivity, influence and change.
In 2018, YouTube appointed former Vanity Fair editor and fashion man Derek Blasberg to lead its fashion division. Since then, luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Celine have joined the video channel to create specific content on this platform.
YouTube, medium for the emerging voices of fashion
"We have some emerging talent in our official program, and I think for them this collaboration is an opportunity to be discovered," Cecilie Thorsmark, executive director of the CPHFW, told the Business of Fashion. “It will be educational for a global audience. What you're going to see on YouTube isn't just a fashion show, it's actually fashion shows run by brands that are working very efficiently and have made tremendous progress when it comes to sustainability."
The complete program includes 25 physical and 13 digital shows, as well as a section called “Designer Q & A”, which aims to elevate the importance of conversations, interactions and collaborative discussions to a broader audience. Each interviewer will post a brand on the show and discuss what the collection's inspirations have been, the themes explored for the SS22 season, and how that brand engages from a responsible point of view.
The entire schedule will be streamed live on YouTube.com/Copenhagenfashionweek, YouTube.com/Live and YouTube.com/Fashion.
