Madrid – Once the program and the official calendar of what will be the edition number 73 of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid, Fashion Week that will take place in the capital of Spain through a face-to-face and hybrid format during the days of April 8 to 11, today we have already been able to know the names of the 8 candidates for the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Talent. Award that the organization of the contest has been awarding, for 17 editions now, with the aim of rewarding "the talent and creativity of young Spanish designers", and whose delivery ceremony, scheduled for the closing of the day on Sunday the 11th, will serve to put the finishing touch on this next edition of the Madrid fashion catwalk.
As candidates for the award, the fashion brands of Guillermo Décimo, Corsicana, Rubearth, Reparto Studio, SergioVillasante, Velásquez, Georgiela Studio and Montenegro have finally been selected. All of them are members of a group of applicants for an award, against which they will compete on the shared values of defending ethical and sustainable fashion. And all this hand in hand with a series of proposals among which we will find a total of 3 men's collections, 4 feminine and 1 of mixed clothes in which masculine and feminine looks will be combined.
"Through their Autumn/Winter 2021/2022 collections, the selected creators explore how to contribute to a more sustainable future, either through the materials chosen or the production models used", the organization of the award explained to through a statement. “Among their proposals”, they tell us, “we find recycled fabrics, as well as different techniques such as upcycling, patchwork and tie dye”, which are used with the aim of “giving a second life to old garments”. A marked commitment to more respectful ways of making and committed to the environment, which have found "once again" in local production one of their greatest ways of expression. Being this "another of the great bets of the contest", in which "craftsmanship and tradition merge with the innovative character of all the candidates". It should also be noted that it will be the edition with the greatest presence of men's firms to date, a true reflection of the rise of men's fashion.
A prize with an endowment of 3,000 euros
Once the presentations have finished, and all the collections of the 8 applicants for the award have been analyzed, a jury made up of different recognized professionals from the world of fashion will be in charge of choosing the firm that won the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Talent award for this April edition. 2021. Award-winning brand whose designer will receive, for the second consecutive edition, an economic endowment of 3,000 euros that can be used to promote and develop his career.
Among all the 8 selected candidates for the award, the designer Guillermo Décimo will compete for the award with his “Queen of thenight” collection. While Paula Currás, founder of the Corsicana firm, will do so with a timeless collection in which she reinvents the fashion classics. Rubearth, by the hand of its designer Gabriel Nogueiras, with pieces created from textile waste. Cast Studio with its collection "Extras". Galician designer Sergio Villasante with his menswear collection “Zebras in London? Why not? The designer Mateo Velásquez with a fluid gender collection. The designer Georgina José García, with her brand Georgiela Studio, with a collection of timeless garments with avant-garde shapes. And finally, the Sevillian designer Nicolás Montenegro, who after passing through major fashion brands such as Max Mara, Francesco Scognamiglio Couture, Yolancris and Dolce&Gabbana, has finally decided to launch his own fashion label. A label under the name of "Montenegro" which will announce its collection "L'Aaiún" for the Autumn/Winter 2021/2022 season in this next edition of MBFWMadrid.
