Citizens of the European Union (EU) and the US with the full vaccination schedule will not have to quarantine starting this Monday when entering England from a country in amber, or with medium risk from covid-19.
The British government had announced last week that as of August 2 it would eliminate the ten days of quarantine for these citizens who have been vaccinated in their own countries.
The risk of contagion
The United Kingdom maintains most of the EU countries on its amber list,
The measure, according to Boris Johnson's Executive, will allow to bring together family and friends, although these citizens are still required to undergo a rapid covid test before boarding and a PCR test on the second day of entering England.
This change will apply to those vaccinated with preparations approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
However, passengers coming from France will have to quarantine for ten days even if they are vaccinated, fearing the British government will spread the Beta variant, first identified in South Africa.
The United Kingdom maintains most of the EU countries on its amber list, while the authorities are expected to release their next assessment of the risk of covid in the different countries by the end of this week.
Until now, only citizens who had received the vaccination in the United Kingdom were exempt from doing the ten-day quarantine upon their return to England from a country in amber.
All travelers arriving from green countries are exempt from isolation, while those from red or high-risk territories -like most Latin American countries- are obliged to comply with isolation in a hotel designated by the Government .
Vaccination
The British government plans to provide a booster dose in September
As for the vaccination process, the British government plans to start supplying those over 50 years a booster dose starting next September, according to The Daily Telegraph newspaper on Monday.
Fearing that the protection provided by the doses could begin to diminish, the authorities want to offer a booster to some 32 million Britons and hope to vaccinate some 2.5 million people per week with this third preparation.
According to the Daily Telegraph, some 2,000 pharmacies will participate in this programme, so that doctors and NHS staff can focus on caring for patients for non-Covid treatments -19. Everyone over the age of 50 and vulnerable people will be offered this third booster shot.
According to the latest official figures, the United Kingdom has vaccinated 88.6% of the adult population with the first dose, while 72.5% of adults have received the full vaccination schedule.
