Meeting up with friends to have a wine, snack and catch up on the latest that has happened in our lives is a plan that we have been practicing religiously for years. But what if instead of meeting in a bar, we met in a painting studio? That is the idea that raises one of the most demanded plans of the moment. In cities like Los Angeles or New York, these curious workshops have long been part of the agenda of millennials. And now they land in Spain ready to consolidate themselves as one more alternative within the changing leisure of this pandemic, which invites them to seek more creative activities.
The objective of these workshops is to disconnect for a few hours in which you dedicate your attention to recreating some work of art, either by famous painters or paintings from each studio in which this activity is carried out. Along with a teacher who is guiding the class, you can brush strokes while you have a gin and tonic, a glass of wine or eat some olives.
"We try to create a relaxed and fun atmosphere, we play good music, we serve a drink and we do something different, so it is a unique place where anyone can have fun," Bruce and Alisa, a couple who decided to leave their school of fine arts, tell us. in California to move to Europe. In 2017 they were responsible for opening Arte Bar, the first studio dedicated to painting and wine in Spain, which has now just opened its doors in Madrid with half of its reservations in December sold out.
- 4 fun plans to make the most of this fall
"The concept of paint and wine is very popular in the United States and we knew we could take the idea to a higher level," they say from Arte Bar. And it seems that the concept is having a very good reception, especially among the new generations. "We have a lot of young people that come, but we love that, really, on any given night we can have a varied age range."
All the paintings that are recreated in this studio are the founder's own creations. And no, you don't need to be an expert with the brush, since these workshops are aimed at everyone, regardless of level. "The goal is that anyone can come and create their own version in three hours. Alisa and I are always looking for new ideas and inspiration for paintings. In fact, one of our most popular paintings comes from a shop window in Barcelona."
To attend these workshops you simply have to make a reservation through the web. It is not necessary that you bring painting materials, because in the studios that carry out this activity they provide everything you need – including the aperitif. "We provide all the art supplies, we have a teacher and an assistant. We also have snacks, wine, beer and music."
And in case you're wondering: yes, later you can take your little work of art with you to decorate the walls of your house with it. "At the end of the night, everyone takes home their picture ready to hang."
