Ineos Automotive's first 4x4 can be purchased from 60,000 euros in a commercial or passenger version

Updated

The Ineos Grenadier, the first vehicle produced by Ineos Automotive, boasts of being a true off-roader and of not having direct competition in the more classic 4x4 segment, which has been 'abducted' by the SUV class to adapt to new market tastes and reach a much larger audience. But one thing is to look like a 4x4 and another thing is to be a real one.

Ineos Grenadier Price

Now, in addition, we know what the new Ineos Grenadier will cost in Spain, both in the version with commercial approval N1 (off-road van) and in the version with category M1 (passenger transport). It can be purchased from 60,000 euros (VAT included) for the two launch versions with 6-cylinder, 3.0-liter BMW engines, one petrol with 285 horsepower and the other diesel with 250 HP, in both cases associated with a transmission. ZF eight-speed automatic.

With equal benefits, the Grenadier will be cheaper than the Land Rover Defender (the historic model it is trying to replace), the Jeep Wrangler (smaller than the British 4x4) and, of course, much more affordable than the luxurious Mercedes- Benz G-Class, the true king of SUVs. It's also cheaper than some 4x4-souled pickups like the Jeep Gladiator or Ford Ranger Raptor. "The Ineos Grenadier does not have a direct competitor; alternatives yes, but a direct rival does not", assure those responsible for Ineos in Spain.

Reservations and first deliveries

Ineos has announced that the online reservation period for preferred customers will open this week (September 30) through a fully returnable deposit of 450 euros. Some 75,000 people have already shown their interest in the Grenadier and are emerging as possible buyers, according to company forecasts.

Preferred customers will be the first to personally configure their orders exclusively for a two-week period, and starting October 14, reservations will be open to the general public. The first customers to confirm orders will receive their vehicles in the summer of 2022. Specifically, Ineos plans to make the first deliveries in July of next year.

Maximum quality

Before, in November 2020, the first units will leave the factory to check the level of production of the plant, located in the French town of Hambach (on the border with Germany). It is the same plant where the electric Smarts are now manufactured and which was acquired a few months ago by Ineos from the Daimler Group to establish its assembly headquarters. "It will be manufactured with high quality and occupational safety standards," says the head of Ineos in Spain and Portugal, Sergi Medina.

Agreement with Bosch Car Service

Ineos has also announced that it has signed a collaboration agreement with Bosch Car Service to ensure extensive coverage of technical and after-sales service throughout the world. Owners in need of assistance can access more than 10,000 Bosch Car Service centers in 150 countries. And in cases where spare parts are not immediately available, Ineos aims to achieve delivery within a maximum of 24 hours in the main markets.

In addition, Ineos will deploy its own sales and after-sales network through dealers with a scalable structure (between eight and 10 own points in Spain) in which, in addition to the sales service, maintenance, repair and spare parts sales will also be offered. Ineos intends to have 200 of its own centers around the world and 70 in continental Europe by the date the Grenadier goes on sale in July 2022.

Ineos Automotive's business model will be mixed: online and offline, the latter based on the agency model (not genuine). This means that the customer will be able to finalize the purchase of his vehicle via the internet or through a specialized agent. And you can also try the vehicle by requesting a test-drive. "The agency model allows us to focus on the quality of the service and absolute transparency in the price. We will set it ourselves, thus avoiding price wars between dealers," promised Medina.

Specialized technicians by region

Ineos assures that it will also have specialized technicians willing to travel wherever the vehicle is, since "customers with a passion for offroad are going to use the car in remote parts of the world." The Spanish customer of this type of vehicle is very fond, for example, of traveling to Morocco. Of course, as the brand has warned, personal assistance will not be a free service.

Simplicity and functionality

Fortunately, the Ineos Grenadier is based on mechanical and technological simplicity precisely to facilitate maintenance and avoid breakdowns and software updates, which are so fashionable in the automotive sector, as much as possible. It promises to be a very robust 4x4 with the classic frame and crossmember chassis, two rigid axles front and rear, steel coil springs, reduction gear and center differential lock.

Interactive Technical Manual

Another novelty unveiled by Ineos is the creation of an interactive 3D technical manual that will be available to 'partners' (Bosch Car Service workshops) and all operators who may need it, such as 4x4 experts, modifiers, conversion specialists and even the clients themselves. "We are the first car manufacturer to offer this interactive technical manual first-hand," said Medina.
