Williamsburg guide, what to do and where to eat in the neighborhood where hipsters live on the one.
One of my favorite neighborhoods, since New York is not just Manhattan.
(At the end of the post you will find some very interesting post to make a route through Brooklyn).
Williamsburg is one of the neighborhoods that you will find in Brooklyn, the north of here is Greenpoint and east Williamsburg East and Bushwick.
Williamsburg's essence is its story and how it has evolved. It was an industrial place, residence of emigrants and artists over the years.
The fusion between the old and the new, its urban art that fills its streets, warehouses and factories converted into fashion places, parks with scandal views to Manhattan, premises with live music, the Williamsburg Jewish and the Williamsburghipster ... It's like putting everything in a cocktail shaker and the result is "Williamsburg".
As any transformation has gone through good and bad times, but now with the gentrification of the place comes the renewal and part of the loss of the old, the whole life and that little essence that characterized this area years ago.The base of this neighborhood was also emigration, many of them arrived from the crowded Lower East Side (Manhattan) at the beginning of the 20th century. Now you can find communities from the ultra -orthodox, the Italian, Portarriqueña and Dominican Jewish.
The vast majority of avant -garde communities of the 80s and 90.
What life has, now many of those people who arrived in the last decades for affordable rentals are moving to areas such as Bed-Stuy, Clinton Hill, Fort Greene and Bushwick, because of the abusive rentals carried by theGentrification. Those neighborhoods are now in full transformation.
Williamsburg is a neighborhood with an industrial profile, but that is being filled with urban works of art through the streets, new residential buildings in Rascacielos Plan (condominiums), small buildings of 2 or 3 floors with a lot of charm, modern hotels and with a lot of life (Perfect to enjoy their accommodations, rooftops, parties, events and gastronomy), a mixture between lifelong busFlag because they are fashionable, second -hand stores and premises with live music ... a perfect fusion creating a symbiosis in the neighborhood.
The latest and what is fashionable you will find in Williamsburg, but with its urban, bohemian and special touch, which is like I like.
The center of this explosion of cultural diversity is Bedford Avenue. In Williamsburg they live from ultra -orthodox Jews on the one hand, hipsters and a small Latin part, in addition to many more people who have left Manhattan for abusive rentals.
Walking through its streets you will find true works of art.
Route through the indie stores of the neighborhood, for fashion coffee shops such as those of a lifetime (which are few), parks, art galleries, for the rooftop, bars with live music and enjoy all the events that areThey do in the neighborhood.
▪︎ Wythe Hotel (80 Wythe Ave, Brooklyn). His rooftop The Ides Bar is one of my favorites.
▪︎ McCarren Hotel & Pool (160 N 12th St, Brooklyn).
▪︎ The Williamsburg Hotel (96 Wythe Ave, Brooklyn). His rooftop the water tower bar usually has DJ’s sessions, while enjoying good music, the sunset that enters warm through its huge windows, in addition to the beautiful stamp of Manhattan's Skyline. You can also enjoy Flea Williamsburg, a handmade and vintage products market on Saturdays of 11 am - 6 pm.
▪︎ Urban Cowboy B & B (111 Powers Street, Brooklyn). Es un B&B con mucho encanto en pleno barrio de Williamsburg.
The famous Williamsburg - Brooklyn neighborhood, you will find on the one hand the Williamsburg Hipster and on the other the Jewish Williamsburg (Orthodox Jews). From Manhattan you can arrive from the Williamsburg Bridge, per meter or by ferry.
▪︎ Walk the Williamsburg neighborhood hipster zone
Walk through the Bedford Avenue, Berry St and Wythe Ave area, discover your favorite places in the neighborhood. With the neighborhood's gentrification you will find some typical chains such as Whole Foods, but there are still neighborhood premises, from stores, restaurants and bars.
The most hipster, independent and bohemian of the neighborhood, in addition to the fashion places, could be said to be:
• Among the area closest to the river to the interior of Brooklyn, from Kent Ave to Driggs Ave and west to east of the neighborhood from N 12th St to S 4th St.
• Among all these places you will also find business as always with a Kitsch and Brooklynite touch.
One of my advice is that you get carried away by the quiet rhythm of the neighborhood and flow, discover your Williamsburg.
▪︎ Orthodox Jews in Williamsburg
The ultra -orthodox Jews of the Williamsburg neighborhood are part of the Satmar community, which are one of the largest groups of Jasidic Judaism. They are even more radical with their traditions and move away from modern or current culture. It is as if they had been to speak, in the past.
The Jasidic Jews of Brooklyn, remain faithful to their traditions, culture and lifestyle, without modeces and closed circle.
It is the area of the neighborhood with a special and very authentic essence. When you walk through the neighborhood, you feel as if you had teleported to another place from New York.As in Chinatown that we find everything (posters, products, typical food ...) in Chinese letters, the same thing happens to this area, its stores, cartels, school buss, ... are all in Hebrew. They also have their own traditions that continue to maintain, that makes this part of the neighborhood have their own essence and very defined personality.
They buy at their premises, the children go to their schools, everything they need is in the neighborhood, there are even people who have not come out of their area.Exists as an invisible wall that surrounds its world, as could be said.
The Orthodox Jews community in Williamsburg, is the test of immigration in New York, something that can be valued is respect for their traditions, culture and religion without changing the essence of what they are although they had to cross an ocean to be able to befree of the terrible events that occurred in the past in Europe.
📍 To get to the area where orthodox Jews reside in Williamsburg, it is best to visit the Hipster part of Williamsburg and from here I moved you to the Jewish part to the Jewish part.
Route: Take the "L" line of the Metro in Union Square and get off at the Bedford Avenue stop.Turn around the most hipster and cool area and then take the "G" line to Metropolitan Avenue and get off on Broadway (it's just a stop you can also walk). If you want to go directly you can arrive by Metro from Manhattan, going down at the stop Ave's stop that is right on a highway (J-M-Z lines), from here you can walk.
Once here, go to Lee AV, the main street where all shops are and let yourself be lost in the adjoining streets. This is a route where you will notice immediately the cultural change and you will live in the first person the multiculturalism in New York, where they live with Harmonia.
▪︎ Discover the urban art of Williamsburg
You will find many samples of urban art, from mostly anonymous authorship to great artists. What I like about urban art is that it is ephemeral, in many of these streets you will find from works of art converted into announcement, collages (works that consist in joining images positioning one about the others, creating something totally new) and graffiti, giving colorand more personality to this neighborhood.
▪︎ Spa and restaurant in Williamsburg
Bathhouse is one of those secret jewels of Williamsburg (Brooklyn). It is the perfect plan for any season of the year, either to pamper you or surprise that person with a spa session + food or spa + dinner.
▪︎ Enjoy Manhattan's Skyline with scandal views from one of his parks and also free
From these parks you will enjoy the views of the Manhattan Skyline, perfect for disconnecting and connecting with the place. They are the perfect place to do sports, do a picnic, meet with friends, to go with the little ones in the house, enjoy the sunseYou will always remember.
Near these parks you have several stores where you can buy the food or get out of the subway in the same Bedford Ave you will find several delis where you can also buy.You will find three parks from where to enjoy Manhattan's Skyline from Williamsburg:
• East River State Park where they do the smorgasburg and is also the Bushwick Inlet Park.
• North 5th Street and Park with a very long loss with great views.
• Grand Ferry Park, here is my favorite bank with views of the East River, the Williamsburg Bridge and the wonderful Skyline.
• Domino Park (Tiene varías entradas: Kent Ave & St 5th St hacía el río, Kent Ave & Grand St).It is right next to the famous Sugar Domino Brooklyn Refinery building (dated 1882 and was one of the world's largest refineries).
In this way it will remain after the rehabilitation of Sugar Domino Brooklyn Refinery and the two large buildings.
The truth is that many buildings of more than 4 floors are being made in the neighborhood, but the new project in a giant rectangle on the edge of the East River, personally I do not like it much for what it generates in the neighborhood, having for aPart for good, but on the other hand it is the great indicative of that gentrification that exists in Williamsburg.
Williamsburg's high demand and Manhattan's more expensive prices make people prefer to stay in Brooklyn instead of Manhattan and of course! If they are with those views better than better. What happens with all this, because people who live for rent in the area or have the usual businesses up rents and end up moving to other areas.
That is what I do not see well, the essence and life of the place are worth less than a bush of bills.
▪︎ sunsets from a rooftop
From these rooftop you can eat, drink and listen to music while contemplating the fall of the day. There is something for everyone.
Rooftop Beer Garden - Clinton Hall Ny This is one of those stores that fuse music, art, rooftop, area with picnic tables and typical American food with good beer.
Berry Park This place is perfect for any season of the year, since it has two plants. The top floor is the rooftop where you can eat and drink.
Lemon’s is the Wythe Hotel rooftop.Contemplating from here the sunset of the day with the New York Skyline in the background is something you will always remember.Even if you go several times, you will always get excited how the first time.
The Water Tower is located at Williamsburg Hotel, a plus music usually has live music to live one of the best Sol posts in NY.
