There are 110 days left to say goodbye to the year and welcome 2022. The good news for fashion lovers is that, in the current New York Fashion Week, we have already witnessed what will be some of the coolest trends that will star the upcoming spring and summer seasons. So we're taking a virtual trip to New York to show you the NYFW SS22 offerings everyone is talking about. Do not hesitate to start planning your outfits with them!
1. The reinvention of the Vichy finish in 2022
La Provence was the French region where this iconic checkered pattern was born (in the 17th century), which, according to the latest edition of New York Fashion Week, will be on the throne next year. Over time, talented international designers have given a new look to the Vichy finish, the last of them? Stuart Vevers (Coach Creative Director), who also did not forget that green will be one of the trending colors of 2022.
But beyond wearing checks in vibrant, contrasting and unexpected tones, the idea is also to coordinate them with other sexy, fun and risky pieces: bras under an elegant jacket, hats as the main element of your relaxed hairstyle and 90s chokers.
2. Trends of dresses with glitter and transparencies
Metallic dresses were one of the most beautiful and trending designs of the year and in 2022 we will continue to see them. One of the proposals that stole looks at NYFW was a silver see-through, strappy design from the Michael Kors spring/summer 2022 collection, under the theme of 'Urban Romance'.
'It is a special love to celebrate the resilience and rebirth of both the city and the fashion industry with a live catwalk. This collection pays tribute to everything I love about spring in the city: the energy, the different people, the romance and the relaxed glamour," Kors said in an official statement from the brand.
3. Pop-art inspiration for your outfits
It has become more than clear to us that fashion was made to have fun and express our most authentic 'I', according to our mood. For this reason, we are fans of the most creative, colorful and artistic trends that break out of the established molds and give us more freedom. And one of these fashion trends are the clothes and accessories that make a clear reference to pop-art.
'Spring presents my vision of a new vocabulary of American fashion inspired by our 80-year heritage through the lens of the next generation... A celebration, too, of the playful and colorful optimism of Coach's first designer, Bonnie Cashin , is a collection that I designed in response to the times we are living in, and a collective wish for a better and brighter future', assured Vevers during the live presentation (and through 'Coach TV: Public Access'), who gave a tribute to New York and its culture with the help of local independent artisans and sustainable materials in some of its bags (such as baseball gloves).
4. Skirts and bras: the hottest spring and summer duo
Repeatedly, we saw looks at New York Fashion Week with sensual sets consisting of a skirt below the knee (especially the so-called 'pencil') and a bra! No, not a tiny top, a real piece of lingerie!
So lose your fear and dare to make your bralettes and bras the focal point of your semi-formal outfits, at parties, and on casual days to dominate street-style.
5. Metallic looks from head to toe!
And with nineties vibes! This was Tom Ford's creative suggestion for next year's spring and summer, but rest assured that all of 2022 will highlight these types of outfits where (in terms of brightness) more will always be more.
Pants, skirts, baggy pants, tank-tops and sleeveless blouses (with sequins) and even jackets in metallic colors stood out at this New York fashion week.
6. Vaporous designs with psychedelic prints
For weddings, special events on the beach and days when you want to feel ultra-feminine and light at the same time, floaty dresses and unconventional prints will help you succeed. And it seems that Brandon Maxwell knows it very well, since he recently surprised us with them at his latest fashion show in the Big Apple.
'I wanted to do something that felt authentic...When I started, maybe I was insecure about not having a fashion background, so I felt like I needed to be more serious but I'm not a serious person. During the pandemic, I decided that if I had the opportunity again, I would like to make her more like myself @ ', Brandon admitted about his new line, in an exclusive interview for US Vogue.
7. Layering and oversized pieces: another of NYFW's bets
Demna Gvasalia, the creative mind behind Balenciaga, came up with options for people who refuse to show too much skin in the hottest seasons of the year, she also proves that boots can still be worn 365 days a year.
We live in a time where comfort is key and the art of layering (which celebs like Billie Eilish have mastered, even on the most exclusive red carpets) are more than a trend, they are part of the style of many people. So why not embrace it especially during 2022?
8. Clothes with feathers
The time has come to normalize outfits with fake-feathers: they are glamorous, extravagant and powerful. Another of our 2022 fashion predictions (based on this NYFW) is that, in the coming months, garments with (synthetic) feathers will no longer be exclusive to parties or special occasions and we will even wear them to the office!
