The pandemic crisis has once again hit the fashion sector. The increase in positives for the omicron variant has begun to generate certain changes in the industry, which was already preparing to show its new proposals at the treacherous Fashion Weeks. This has happened with the Italian house Armani.

The Italian designer Giorgio Armani (87 years old) has announced this Tuesday, January 4, that he is canceling his Emporio Armani and Giorgio Armani shows scheduled for this month at Milan Men's Fashion Week, where they planned to present their autumn collection -winter 2022-2023. Likewise, the Giorgio Armani catwalk, scheduled for the week dedicated to Haute Couture in Paris and where they would present their spring/summer 2022 proposal, due to the increase in coronavirus cases in Europe. In fact, the same day that they have announced the cessation of their shows, Italy has added a new record with 170,844 infections and 259 deaths.

The Italian fashion house has explained through a statement that the decision responds to careful consideration given the worsening of the epidemiological situation, derived from the rapid spread of cases of the omicron variant.

In its statement, the Italian firm has also taken the opportunity to recall that the designer has always defended that "shows are special and irreplaceable moments", but that on this occasion "the protection of the health and safety of collaborators and of the public is once again a priority".

At the moment, the brand has not made it clear if it will carry out another plan to present its next proposals, until the new wave of Covid-19 is stopped. Before the outbreak of the pandemic, the Italian firm held a show behind closed doors at Milan Fashion Week in February 2020, after more than 132 cases of coronavirus were registered in northern Italy.

So far it is unknown if other prestigious houses will join this initiative. At the moment, Milan Men's Fashion Week is still scheduled to start on January 14 and end on the 18th. While the Week dedicated to Parisian haute couture will take place between January 24 and 27.
