The green path "takes shape", in the words of the mayor, with the arrival and installation this weekend of a viaduct that will connect it with the Vía Norte and the upper square of Vialia. The complexity of the work requires two days of closure to traffic on the Vía Norte, between Escultor Gregorio Fernández and Párroco José Otero (with exclusive access for garages, public service and loading and unloading), starting Friday at 10:00 a.m. . The forecast is to have the footbridge placement completed on Saturday, in such a way that traffic will recover normally in the area on Sunday.
The budget for this second phase of the work is close to three million euros. The first section of the greenway, about half a kilometer long, was opened two years ago and the City Council is now completing the route up to the city limit with Redondela, also providing it with a connection to the center through the street Navarre and the Vía Norte.
With the greenway, the City Council is recovering the old surface train route as a pedestrian and cycling path, from the station to the municipality of Redondela. In these nearly four kilometers of route, Vigo will incorporate rest areas, viewpoints, children's play areas and bio-healthy areas for the elderly, new urban furniture, an outdoor training circuit and tree plantations. The project from Vigo preserves part of the railway origin, maintaining the signaling, sections of the rails and other elements such as the catenary, where the lighting will be installed.
One of the objectives of the government chaired by Abel Caballero is to provide the new path with different access and exit points along the entire itinerary. Thus, in addition to the entrance through the Vía Norte footbridge, the City Council will place a ramp at the height of Buenos Aires street, one hundred and fifty meters long and will open other connections with Coutadas, Xuncal, Camiño da Vía, Camiño da Ferrería, Avenida de Galicia, Párroco Don Serafín, Camiño Cascalleira and Camiño das Ánimas.
