This morning the winning poster announcing the Ciudad Real Carnival 2022 was presented, which will take place from February 26 to March 6 and has been declared of Regional Tourist Interest. The finalist was Rubén Lucas García, from Torreaguera (Murcia) who presented himself with the motto "Finally". Nine posters with excellent quality have been submitted to the contest. A "Carnival" that will take place in a smaller format, in some events, and whose organization may vary depending on the evolution of the pandemic.

The mayoress of Ciudad Real, Eva María Masías, explained that the poster "collects all the emblems and banners of our city coming out of a box, since we have been with the pandemic for two years, and an explosion of color opens so that the city lives the Carnival". On Saturday the 26th the proclamation will take place at the Old Casino of Ciudad Real. On February 27, the local carnival Sunday "dedicated to associations, murgas, brass bands and peñas of the capital" will be held. For this, explained the first mayor, a stage truck will be installed where the participants "will be able to show off their carnivalesque satyr humor, their colors and choreographies." On Monday, February 28 and Tuesday, March 1, work is being done with different councils to see what activities can be carried out with "absolute security, since they are days that are usually dedicated to the elderly and the smallest, which are collective high risk."

On March 2, the "burial of the sardine" will be celebrated, coinciding with "Ash Wednesday", the moment in which Don Carnal gives way to Doña Cuaresma. Masías commented that the tour will begin in the Plaza Mayor until reaching the Puerta de Toledo and will use "a sardine and some big heads that were purchased by the Department of Celebrations, but could not parade." As a novelty, "the traditional sardine will not be held, to maintain the health safety standards stipulated by the Castilla-La Mancha Community Board, although there will be burning".
