The good thing about the fact that we haven't had red carpets or galas in quite some time, is that the most iconic outfits of the past remain more alive than ever.
And now that the temperatures are rising, we can't stop thinking about the one Kim Kardashian wore for the Met Gala in 2019, created by Mugler and inspired by a Sophia Loren character fresh out of the sea. The recreation of that refreshing and brilliant effect in the textures of the dress, the crystal appliqués and the beauty look, has remained in our memory until today.
These desires for fantasy and illusion are more pertinent than ever, especially when the spring-summer catwalk has confirmed that the trend will take us along those paths. It was not a crazy idea either, considering that it is about going in search of a wet finish at the time when we are most soaked.
But the urban, modern and even conceptual turn in the hair styling of the Versace, Chloé or Acne Studios proposals is what has captivated us. A twist that has made us really want to get down to work. The mission? A wet look worthy of the Met or, at least, one that breathes creativity and intention while facilitating summer life.
Let's start with the more literal approach to a wet hairstyle at the Versace show. Donatella recovered her verve after confinement with a parade that chose the lost city of Atlantis as a backdrop. A myth submerged in the depths of the sea that directly inspired the hairdressing design of the models. The hair was ultra-wet, sensual and wavy on the face, including the growing hairs or baby hairs, which were curled creating patterns, in the purest hip hop style.
Essential Mousse, by Kin Cosmetics at Mumona.com
To give hair that mirror-like shine, we love the Essential Mousse, by Kin Cosmetics. A mousse that allows you to sculpt and shape waves and curls, providing high hold, but without a stiff feeling. On the contrary, the result is flexible and comfortable after its application on the still wet head. In addition, it contains antioxidant tea extract and UVA protective filter.
Loose, run through with water and directly treated with a styling product. This is how the Swedish Acne Studios posed the hair of their mannequins. Inspired by the urban tribes that pursue joy and solar vivacity, something quite common for that Nordic meridian, his collection was filled with reflections and iridescence, finding an ideal partner in the wet finish. It was reflected in a minimal and loose hair, removed with a comb from the face, except for different locks that are worked individually with the fingers themselves.
If a stick-and-buff finish like this is your desire, you can opt for an at-home Brazilian blowout like Kativa's, especially if you're starting with thick or frizzy hair. With three different varieties, we love the one specifically for dark colors because it includes açaí and organic coconut oil for extra shine and softness. So as soon as you get out of the water, it will be untangling, combing, fixing and that's it.
Slightly less polished, grunge-inspired and even with a few messy hairs on their faces, Sportmax and Chloé also left their hair in the wind. But the key was to treat different sections graphically, taking a few minutes to strategically place them on the forehead. From here on, if up-dos are your thing, you can go for a very 90s solution, so much so that even the Spice Girls would be proud: collect your hair in two buns and leave a couple of loose strands.
Nashi Argan After Sun Shampoo, available at Rizo’s
To replicate it, we advise you to start with the foundations, with a good wash that eliminates accumulated residues, chlorine, salt and sand, but at the same time hydrates and allows you to play with the finishing products. Nashi Argan's After Sun shampoo, available at Rizo's, is the ideal bet to gently cleanse during the beach months. Enriched with UV filters and vitamin E, it repairs, replenishes lost water and nutrients and reinforces the hair fiber to restore all the lost softness and manageability.
Now, if your summer translates into combing after wet combing, a recommendation is to use a product prior to styling that conditions and prepares without leaving a heavy feeling. This is how you untangle without realizing it, improving the final result in the short and long term (that is, when you return home after vacation).
Magic Water, by Elvive
A very appetizing option is Magic Water, by Elvive. A lotion that looks like micellar water, but for your hair. Smoothes the cuticle in just eight seconds, instantly brightening and smoothing. Likewise, it works for all textures, especially interesting in the case of wavy and curly ones, since it will help them define themselves and take shape, like cornrows, for example, or African braids in a wet version.
And you, do you already know which of these wet versions you are going to start the summer with?
