The Amancio Ortega Dona Foundation 280 million from public health to buy cancer machines
On the same world day against breast cancer, yesterday, October 19, the Amancio Ortega Foundation announced a solidarity donation of 280 million euros to public health.The Government will receive this economic amount to manage ten protonopia machines, a novel technique that uses protons instead of X -ray to destroy tumor cells helping to reduce the side effects after treatment in cancer patients.
This initiative will go to seven autonomous communities that will receive this equipment at the facilities of their hospitals: Basque Country, Galicia, Andalusia, the Valencian Community, Canary Islands, Madrid and Catalonia.These last two, Madrid and Catalonia, in addition two machines will be distributed instead of one, due to the population density that lives in their territory.
The Donation of the Amancio Ortega Foundation seeks to accelerate clinical research to alleviate this treatment and its benefit already places Spain as the leading country in the use of cancer technology.

This is a commitment that acts on the collaboration plan in the implementation of protonopia in the National Health System, signed yesterday at the Moncloa Palace by the Foundation itself, the Central Government and by all the autonomous communities that will obtain thisnew equipment.The machines will arrive in the hospitals in a distribution of four annuities, which will be the frequency with which the purchase will be made and the Ministry of Health will be responsible for executing it by advancing the corresponding payments.
The installation of protonopia machines will significantly help patients as the level of radiation they receive will decrease, improve the results of the treatment and, especially in children, will reduce the probability of suffering a second cancer in the future.In adults, in addition, protonopia is also an advantageous treatment against others, since it helps to favor the improvement of nervous system results.A treatment that Spain can now boast and that will be a great step for our public health and for the health of patients deposited in the General State Budgets.
