Miniskirt: how to combine (according to the catwalk) the garment of the season

The spring collections that are being presented bet on the miniskirt, which comes with a low cut and is inspired by the 2000s. Get inspired to know how to combine the garment that you will find everywhere this season.

A few months ago, singer Dua Lipa chose a Versace outfit to attend the Frieze Art Fair in London. The look was made up of a lime green top and a purple miniskirt, both made of mesh fabric. The length of the skirt did not go unnoticed: it was very mini. That was one of the first hints of what we would see in the next collections: this garment would be several centimeters shorter.

This summer it became clear that trends from the past such as low-rise pants are returning, which tells us that designers miss the 2000s (or as they call them now, Y2K), and therefore we will see many clothes inspired by this era. Although the miniskirt arrived in the 60s, the 2000s took it upon themselves to shorten it and make it much sexier. Everything indicates that the high waist will continue, but it is very likely that it will have to coexist with this new style of skirts that, of course, come in all colors, shapes and patterns.

Each firm reinterprets the miniskirt in its own way. Chanel has her classic version of tweed, Acne bets on the casual and Prada for a minimal lady style. In general, this season the miniskirt is going to remain practically as we have been seeing it in recent months, the rise of the low waist will come (perhaps) later.

At the moment, the cut of the skirt does not fall below the navel (with some very media exceptions in Miu Miu or Blumarine) but the most popular length will be the one that leaves the legs in the air (the more visible, the better). We have been attentive to the proposals of the catwalks, and we have taken note of the different ways to combine this timeless garment and more on trend than ever.

MINIMAL MINI SKIRT

Miniskirt: how to combine (according to catwalk ) the garment of the season

We have seen it in the Prada and Emilio Pucci shows, and despite being one of the most discreet options, it has not gone unnoticed. The miniskirt that they propose to us is minimalist, with a very simple pattern, with few cuts and straight both at the waist and at the bottom. It has the typical modern essence of the 2000s and deserves all the prominence, so it is better to combine it with neutral garments.

knitted miniskirt

It is clear that in winter one of the best ways to combine a miniskirt is with a knitted garment, but on one condition: it must be oversized. You can choose to tuck the garment inside the skirt or leave it outside, what will give the desired effect are the XXL sleeves equal to or longer than the miniskirt. In this case, it can be of any style, but with the knit we recommend you opt for synthetic leather skirts to create contrast between the materials.

MINISKIRT WITH MONOCHROME LOOK

One of the ways to make an impact with your outfit is by choosing all the clothes in the same color. The miniskirt is part of this trend and is one of the favorite options of firms, which take advantage of it to create memorable looks. To generate greater visual impact, choose vibrant colors and complement it with accessories of the same color, but if you prefer to wear a more discreet version of this trend, you can opt for a total white look.

PATTERNED MINISKIRT TO SET

The idea of the monochrome total look is transformed on this occasion to give way to prints. From Chanel and Carolina Herrera we recommend choosing this option for special occasions and combining the pattern of the skirt with that of the jacket. Underneath this could be a matching top or nothing at all. The preferred print is geometric, and the fabric, one of very, very bright sequins.

Printed skirt, by Ted Baker
