The Redwood Sky Walk proposes 400 meters of walkways in the air to walk and interact with these majestic trees, one of the natural treasures of Northern California.

When was the last time you climbed a tree? Perhaps too much time has passed. Today we know that walking in the woods is the best antidote to stress, according to numerous studies. And that hugging them is a form of therapy that is becoming more widespread every day. What the new Redwood Sky Walk that opens this weekend in Eureka, a city in northern California, proposes is a way to combine both this nostalgic desire to climb the trunks with the experience of feeling their healing power.

Its magic formula has been to install walkways at a height of about 30 meters to give the visitor another perspective of these majestic giants, trees that can exceed 100 meters in height and can live for more than 1,000 years. The Redwood Sky Walk winds its way through a 70-acre redwood forest. "The air ride is about 400 meters long, the longest in the western United States," according to Sherry Wallace, head of public relations.

The Redwood Sky Walk is located within the oldest zoo in California and both are located within Sequoia Park, the jewel in Eureka's crown. "You have to venture a little further into this region to visit Redwood National Park and Humboldt Redwoods State Park, among other great places."

At a cost of 4 million dollars, the new walkway unites up to nine observation platforms, each with a different view of the forest. They are designed to stop comfortably, calmly listen to the sounds of the forest and contemplate the vegetation at the foot of the redwoods. From above you can also see the trails that fill the park and encourage you to explore.

Technically responsible for the project is Portland-based Synergo, a company specializing in aerial forestry experiences. It is not, they insist, in an adventure park. The Redwood Sky Walk is solid and safe. In addition there is not a flight of stairs, that is, it is completely accessible. Although those who want to feel a higher dose of adrenaline can swing on a suspension bridge over a hundred meters long. And if you come this opening weekend, the options are many more: from yoga on the platforms, to talks with experts on wildlife and an introduction to forest bathing.

A curiosity is that the ascent ramp is almost identical in height to the tallest known redwood. This is Hyperion, with no less than 115.85 meters in height (and 4.5 meters in base). The place to see this wild skyscraper is Redwood National Park, actually four conjoined parks that together cover an area of 540 square kilometers and protect more than 45% of all old-growth redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) forests. It is an ecosystem so unique that it was designated a World Heritage Site in the 1980s.
