For 40 years, the residents of the towns of L'Arena and San Esteban have been asking for the construction of a footbridge that joins both points without, to date, having managed to get the different Asturian governments to pay attention to them.
José Carlos Álvarez, spokesperson for the Platform created to defend this old demand, has been with us at MEDIODÍA Cope. He remembered that a draft had already been made that cost him good money, but that he sleeps the sleep of the just in a drawer. There was even a budget item that was never heard from again.
He considers that the footbridge would be a tourist boost for the area and that the Mining Funds that passed by have been wasted, for example. And this despite the fact that they swallowed coal and dirt for decades, but not those funds that did bring economic and environmental reactivation to other regions.
If the regional budget does not support the work alone, you can always go to European funds, although you fear that there will be no fight for this infrastructure before the European Union or the Government of Spain.
At this point he affirms that what is needed is will. After all the time that has elapsed, he affirms that it is already a matter of "historical justice"
