The first trans contestant of Miss Usa reflects on her elimination: "They were simply not prepared"
Kataluna Enriquez, the first openly transgender woman to compete in the Miss USA contest, recently reflected on her elimination of the event.
In an interview published on Wednesday by Yahoo Life, the Fashion Medical and Designer Administrator spoke about her experience competing for the coveted Miss USA Corona after she could not move forward on Monday at 16 finalists in the Tulsa Tournament, Oklahoma.
The title ended in the hands of Elle Smith, a television news reporter from Kentucky on Tuesday.
"It was an honor to be able to represent my community and be an example for queer children who now know that they do not need to be limited by society's standards," said Enriquez A Yahoo.
Enriquez made history in June when she became the first openly trans winner of the contest for Miss Nevada.After he did not classify in the national contest, the model told Yahoo that she was "surprised" and "disappointed".
"I worked a lot for it," he said."I think they were simply prepared".
On Wednesday, the pioneer beauty queen shared a glamorous group photo of the event and recalled on Instagram her trip to Miss USA.
"Upon entering the competition, I was prepared to face problems and conflicts due to our political climate and division," Enriquez wrote.“I entered with a prejudice of beliefs and attitudes according to their state, but I am very grateful to have wrong.To all the women who approached me with kindness and to those who took the time to understand me, thank you ".
While fulfilling his press duties during his ownership as Miss Nevada, Enriquez constantly used his platform to empower other people from marginalized communities and share their own success story.Before being a beauty queen of the state, Enriquez began in the fashion design sewing his own dresses because he could not find any that would fit his body or budget.
"Thank you for giving me the opportunity to show the world another side of the story that is commonly not told correctly," he continued on Instagram.
“For all the people who once felt invisible or who were denied the opportunity to be the best of themselves, this is for you.I am a living example of what was impossible.Do not let expectations and social standards prevent you from living your truth and pursuing your dreams ".
