Georgina Chávez, designer and illustrator from Chihuahua, has managed to stand out in the world of fashion with her dresses and illustrations for international brands and celebrities.
Recently, the artist Danna Paola wore one of the designs created by the Tec de Monterrey Chihuahua campus graduate on the red carpet of the SACM Éxito Award.
Since 2013, she is the founder and creative director of the slow fashion clothing brand Georgina Chávez.
“The garments we make are for special events, we want them to look like they came out of a fairy tale, to be feminine,” the designer told CONECTA.
Her work with brands and celebrities
In 2013, she graduated from the Tec de Monterrey Chihuahua campus in Industrial Design and founded the clothing brand Georgina Chávez, where she is the creative director.
It was through her social networks that the big brands noticed her work and she came to collaborate with brands such as Valentino, Pai Pai cosmetics, Melissa Shoes and Schneider Electric, among others.
Finally, one of her last experiences was with the singer and actress Danna Paola, who wore one of her dresses at an award ceremony.
“Danna Paola's team contacted us, we sent her the dress at the end of July, they told us that it fit her very well. It was a surprise to see that she did use it for an award ceremony, ”said Georgina.
It should be noted that the growth of its brand has been exponential, which has also allowed it to increase its national and international sales.
Her dresses have reached countries such as Singapore, Taiwan, China, Australia, Switzerland, the United States, Chile and Colombia.
Currently "thanks to working with the big brands" it has around 280 monthly orders and 27 employees.
The beginning, with dresses made to order
Her first approach to fashion was born as a child while she was playing with dolls.
Without knowing how to sew, she made illustrations that eventually led her to take art and dressmaking classes.
“I started sewing at the age of 17 and throughout my studies I tried to incorporate fashion design into projects, as they were very free,” Georgina said.
When she graduated from college, she began making custom dresses at home.
"The clients arrived with a photo and I tried to replicate it, it was very difficult, but they were happy with my work," explained EXATEC.
Georgina comments that “before making dresses” her beginnings were as an illustrator, which also led her to work with well-known brands.
“Before dedicating myself to dresses, in my career I was a fashion illustrator, Vogue Mexico used one of my illustrations for Christmas cards”, Georgina mentioned.
Three years after graduating, he decided to open a store with only five employees and 10 orders a month.
Her learning at the Tec
During her studies at the Tec, Georgina had the opportunity to make the most of her abilities and learn from her professors.
“The Tec helped me because the teachers who came across my path were the ones who helped me see the way I see my career, they were the ones who helped me in my training.”
Georgina was always clear that she wanted to start and form her own business, something that the Tec taught her throughout her student life.
“When I left the Tec I didn't see myself as an employee, it never crossed my mind to be hired, but to have my own business, I don't know if that's the Tec factor”.
Some of the professors who most marked his career at the Tec were María del Carmen Sánchez Mejorada and Guadalupe Reyes, who helped him train and develop his professional career.
Projects for the future
Among its plans for the future, it has to offer men's cuts in its catalogue, launch new garments so that clients can use them in December and the remodeling of its premises.
