Summer is their favorite day of the year, they say ironically on the Hondarribia promenade. And it doesn't surprise us. With the Bay of Biscay opposite, and that freshest breeze that makes us rejuvenate ten years at once. Ending August and summer here is a fantasy. Nothing to do with the almost forty degrees of temperature in Madrid. It's another roll. Yes, friends, we are talking about Hondarribia. 20 kilometers from San Sebastian towards France. A small Gipuzkoan city located at the mouth of the Bidasoa river looking at Hendaye that will steal your heart. As if it were a story town. True to itself, to its history, its red and green colors and its Virgin of Guadalupe. We can say that we are talking about the most instagrammable corner of the Basque Country. And that is already saying a lot. Its pintxos and its typical fish soup that they say is one of the richest in the world. Its people and their different Basque dialects and accents that make you love Hondarribia even more.

But you may wonder, what are we doing in Hondarribia? Well, enjoy and learn at the 1st Tourism Conference on Gastronomy, Fashion and Luxury in the Basque Country. An appointment that has nothing to envy to the big film festivals so typical of this month of September, organized by the Bidibi Badibi Bú Group agency. A magical name, like the conferences they have organized. Every summer has its story, and in the book of my summer 2021, just 24 hours in Hondarribia have served to give it one of the most important chapters.

In order to connect new digital talents with hospitality, restaurant, design, fashion or lifestyle companies, the Bidibi Babidi Bú Group agency brought together various fashion designers from the Basque Country and Spain, who together with the best Michelin star chefs from the town combined their creativity to fuse different gastronomic dishes inspired by unique pieces of fashion and accessories such as fine jewelry. A commitment to luxury tourism and high craftsmanship that left all the guests surprised. We do not doubt that much more will come because when talent, passion and noble hearts come together, success is assured.

The first and essential step on any trip to the Basque Country: Gastronomy

Reasons why HONDARRIBIA is much more the MOST INSTAGRAMABLE town in the Basque Country

Michelin restaurants in the Basque Country as in Alameda, by the Txapartegi brothers, faithful defenders of old cuisine, local produce, the flavor of the land, who have managed to place the restaurant in the culinary firmament, where it shines with its own light thanks to a Michelin star and two Repsol Guide Suns.

Nazario Cano, who already has four Michelin stars in the Murcia region together with the Eneres Group, was inspired by one of the dazzling evening dresses by Eduardo Andés, which recreates industry and mining in the Basque Country with shades of gray and beading in silver.

Basque recipes from the avant-garde Aitor Amutxastegi from his restaurant Arraunlari Berri, and other avant-garde chefs such as Andoni Chinchilla and Gorka Aguinaga were also present. This last chef was inspired by one of the creations of the jewelry designer Lisi Fracchia, a dish full of color and activation of the five senses, like the precious stones that the gemologist uses in her pieces, even worn by HM the Queen, Doña Letizia Ortiz.

In this unusual union in the places of Hondarribia, designers such as Sara Navarro were also present, who told how her “rebel self” wanted from a young age to make “women feel more feminine and empowered when walking under her shoe designs more than 15m with the smell of cherry”, the shoe designer qualified. In addition to Aitziber Etxebarrieta and the beloved Hondarribitarra Maialen Campaña, who covered various influencers with her dresses in a unique environment fused with the artisan decoration of the Basque company Endanea Garden.

Don't miss out on txakolí

And to accompany these fantastic days, we were lucky enough to celebrate a tasting of the best Reservas from the famous Bodegas Añada Real and the most select txakolis from Bodegas Hiruzta. The family of these wineries pursued the dream of "recovering the production of this wine in the territory where it was born, Hondarribia, and from which it had disappeared due to the sieges that this border area suffered."

Influencers and tradition also go hand in hand

Influencers such as Estibaliz Prieto, Nagore Fernández, Érika Bermejor, Estefany Escobar and Sandra Martín Haro enjoyed all of this together with special guests including the chef and businesswoman Elena Arzak or fashion expert journalist Jesús Reyes, among other professionals in the sector.
