Margiela's studio had to do multiple knit swatches to ensure that the tension and body were perfect, that the garment "had emotion, didn't feel brand-new, and had a bit of soul," says Galliano. "It's very nonchalant, but at the same time quite chic, I think," describes the jumper, which took 11 days (or 90 hours) to knit.
Galliano also had an eye on the lining. "I couldn't stay without using it for something," he says. “So I made it into a little bonnet with a kind of sun on top. I loved how it looked with the yellow rubber boots and bag, ready for a nice walk to the park."
The garment now bears Maison Margiela's Recicla label: “Model description, look number four, Tomo Koizumi. Origin, Japan. Spring 2021”.
