Reflections

Pitti Bimbo, the largest children's clothing fair in Europe, was held from 11 to 13 January 2022 in Florence, Italy. They exhibited 170 brands, of which 81 were from outside Italy. This was the second time that the fair has been held "in person" since the beginning of the pandemic at the beginning of 2020. Exhibitors and visitors had to wear mask and present a vaccination test to be able to enter Fortezza da Basso safely. Focused on the "reflections".

The fair divided the exhibitors into two sections. The "100 percent Bambino" section displayed consolidated children's brands, while "Kids Lab" was dedicated to cutting-edge children's clothing and children's lifestyle products, showing young and pioneering brands.

Sustainability was a priority

Some of the buyers who attended Pitti Bimbo were featured on their website, such as Shana Laub, founder of the electronic commerce website Shan and Toad. When asked about what makes Pitti Bimbo unique, he replied: "what makes it unique is the mix of top quality brands and smaller emerging designers. That's what makes it the most relevant and important fair for buyers like me." Laub was also asked to describe some of the trends that dominate children's clothing, to which he replied: "A proven and true trend that has been relevant for a while and does not seem to be going away, are graphic motifs. Especially in children's clothing, this concept makes products fun, attractive and entertaining. Sustainability is also fashionable, and rightly so. Being in the fashion business, it seems contradictory, and I feel it is my duty to select brands that make responsibly and ethically.".

The concept of sustainability and circular production was present throughout the fair. German Infantium Victoria, who specializes in contemporary organic and vegan fashion design for children, participated in the "Kids Lab". The brand presented the "Zero Waste dresses", described by the brand as "all developed from recovered garments and using innovative cutting techniques that produce less than 1 percent of fabric waste; a circular fashion manifesto".

The editorials

The editorials are an essential element of Pitti Bimbo; on this occasion there were two, both curated by stylist Maria Giulia Pieroni. "magic Box" was the title of the first editorial: a collection of classic table games, never seen, described on Pitti Bimbo's website as "all very fun and stylish, renovated through new and captivating graphics". The collection "instantly outdoor" was presented exclusively online, "bringing together functional and fun, elegant and technical accessories, for temperatures below zero: in short, the best of the brands with an adventurous spirit", was the description of the website.

The highlights of Pitti Immagine Bimbo

Petra Barkhof and Enrico Fragale Esposito are, respectively, editor-in-chief and deputy editor-in-chief of the Italian children's fashion magazine Scimparello. During the fair, Petra and Enrico reviewed the brands' collections and created instant sets with color combinations. Two videos on Pitti Bimbo's website showed the results.

The next edition of Pitti Immagine Bimbo will take place from 22 to 24 June 2022.
