Academics and companies in the European footwear sector met on December 9, 2021 to mark the end of the Erasmus + Sciled project "Footwear in the 21st century".

| 05.01.2022 |The SCILED consortium has produced interactive digital training tools and updated and versatile training modules. The objective of this development is to complement and enrich higher education programs in shoe comfort, design and sustainability engineering. It is expected that the material developed by SCILED aimed at footwear designers and product managers become a fixed element of many European footwear programs.

In addition, Sciled has launched an European Institutions, Companies and Research Centers for Higher Education. This alliance will continue investigating and innovating in this field.

The Sciled project is considered, in fact, one of the main research efforts in the manufacture of footwear in Europe.

SCILED ACADEMY: INTERACTIVE EDUCATIONAL MATERIAL

One of the distinctive characteristics of the Erasmus + Sciled project is its commitment to the creation of educational material that protrudes both in form and content. The consortium has updated two existing qualification profiles: Product Manager and Footwear Designer.

To do so, it has enriched the main body of knowledge associated with the profiles mentioned above with specific sets of design, sustainability and comfort engineering skills. These specialization fields were already relevant when the project was conceptualized and now they have become indispensable following the pandemic.

Divided into three modules - one one composed of lessons, video conferences, exercises and tests - the content is intended to complement existing university training programs. All didactic material is available for free at the online Scied academy.

In addition, Scied experts went beyond high quality content and developed a completely digital footwear Fablab. This presents all the necessary operations to create a piece of footwear.

Tested and approved by students

Within the framework of the final event, students' comments on the material developed by the Consortium were also presented.A weekly stay in Portugal gave European students from Italy, Portugal, Romania and Spain the opportunity to test the material and learn to incorporate new comfort parameters and sustainability strategies in their way of thinking.

The students interviewed assured that the SCILED material was a great source of inspiration;as well as a very useful guide to improve your theoretical knowledge.Master's students who have joined Knowledge Alliance were responsible for testing the Sciled training material. The feedback was very positive and the students stressed that "the work of the course is useful, entertaining and interesting at the same time";and that "the Sciled Academy offers well -structured modules with very interesting videoconferences and are easy to use and navigate".

Some students also highlighted how the material allowed them to better understand the shoe as a whole and the importance of comfort and performance requirements. They also informed that it helped them understand the concepts and applications of sustainability in footwear.Especially at an early stage such as the conceptualization of footwear.

The work of the Sciled Consortium

After three years of research and content development, the Sciled consortium presented the results of its work before a wide and varied audience. The interest in their content by university professors, students and companies was palpable. They are obvious signs that the SCILED material will become a basic element in many European universities.
